Upgrading Education Programs for Aboriginal Adults

This 12-month qualitative study is using a research–in-practice approach to explore why Aboriginal learners leave adult basic education and upgrading programs before completion, and identify promising practices in retention and completion. The study is conducted by a group of educators (practitioners and managers) who use a reading circle approach to read, review and relate selected literature on Aboriginal learning, adult basic education and upgrading programs to their program practices. Participants volunteer in this small convenience sample made up of Academic Foundations, Aboriginal upgrading program (lead), BVC Aboriginal Centre, and Counselling and Specialized Support.
