The Fall Institute 2012, Social Finance and Innovation for Adult Basic Learning: Opportunities and Challenges is coming up.
Date: Sunday, October-14-12 9:00 AM – Tuesday, October-16-12 1:30 PM (Atlantic Time)
Location: Delta Brunswick Hotel, Saint John, New Brunswick
The Fall Institute will explore a range of social finance and other innovative funding models including those currently being proposed by governments, focusing on how these models might apply to literacy and essential skills programs in community and workplace. Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) will share findings from recent pilot projects. What opportunities and challenges do the models offer? What lessons can we take from these and from early initiatives in Canada to guide our directions in workplace LES? What research has been done worldwide? We will examine how “pay-for-performance” connects to both federal and state/provincial/territorial adult learning and accountability “systems”. We will look at some models of cooperatives with a learning agenda and ask how the larger cooperative movement might inform approaches to LES.
