New HSBC Learning Activity Centre offers free, fun online learning resources for families

Toronto, ON (January 7, 2013) — ABC Life Literacy Canada and HSBC Bank Canada are working together to help Canadian families increase their literacy skills this year. HSBC Bank Canada is the 2013 and 2014 title sponsor of the HSBC Learning Activity Centrein support of ABC Life Literacy Canada’s Family Literacy Day January 27.

“We are delighted that HSBC Bank Canada’s support will help us improve family literacy across Canada,” said Anthony Alfred, Interim President at ABC Life Literacy Canada.  “The new HSBC Learning Activity Centre provides parents and children with interactive online resources to practice their literacy and essential skills. What a dynamic way to celebrate 15 illustrious years ofFamily Literacy Day, Canada’s largest annual literacy celebration involving adults and children.”

The HSBC Learning Activity Centre offers a variety of family-friendly resources, including storytelling tips from best-selling Canadian author andFamily Literacy Day Honorary Chair Robert Munsch, a learning passport, games, activity sheets and more.

Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness towards the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. In honour of Family Literacy Day’s 15th year, ABC Life Literacy Canada is encouraging Canadian families to have “15 Minutes of Fun” learning together.  HSBC has supported Family Literacy Day since 2011.
